Google Workspace for Education update on Price Increase on October 1st
Google Workspace for Education has posted an update about subscription price increase, starting October 1, 2025. A screenshot of the update is attached below.
The Education Plus annual licence will increase from $5 to $6 per user per year (a 20% increase), while the Teaching & Learning Add-on will increase from $48 to $60 per user per year (a 25% rise). The price changes will take effect starting October 1, 2025, for Flexible Plans and February 1, 2026, for Annual Plans.
Flexible monthly pricing for Education Plus will also increase by 25%, from $4.80 to $6 per user per month, starting October 2025.
Google says that starting 2025 it will eliminate the previous policy of 1 free staff license for every 4 paid student licenses. Now, all staff must be covered under paid licenses, which raises the costs for institutions with large staff counts by 20–25%. However, Google is offering a 10% discount on the first renewal year for institutions that increase paid licenses by 10% during their 2025–2026 transition period.
For AI tools, starting September 1, 2025, the Gemini Education add-on ($20/user/month) and Gemini Education Premium ($30/user/month) will be consolidated into Google AI Pro for Education, priced at the $30/user/month tier. This means standard Gemini users will see a 50% price increase upon transitioning. Existing Gemini Premium subscribers will automatically be moved to the new plan by February 1, 2026.
The table below shows the price changes;
Product | Current Price (2024) | New Price (2025) | % Increase |
---|---|---|---|
Education Plus (Annual) | $5/user/year | $6/user/year | +20% |
Teaching & Learning Add-on (Annual) | $48/user/year | $60/user/year | +25% |
