Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov today revealed in a post on X (attached below) Telegram has surpassed 15 million paid subscribers.

Telegram Premium Plan Surpasses 15 Million Subscribers

Telegram Premium, which launched on June 19, 2022, has seen significant growth since its launch. According to Durov, the number of paid subscribers has doubled in the past year.

The Telegram Premium subscription includes several features not available to free users, such as 4GB file uploads, no ads, faster download speeds, increased limits for chats and media, voice-to-text transcription, and enhanced privacy features.

According to pricing data from PriceTimeline, Telegram Premium is priced at $29.88 per year. Based on this cheapest subscrition rate, and not accounting for platform fees or regional pricing variations, Telegram could be generating over $448 million annually from subscriptions alone. It is important to note that Telegram Premium is more expensive in developed nations like UK, US where they charge between $35 to $60 per year.

Telegram also generates revenue through other streams such as in-app purchases, advertising for free users, promotions, and partnerships.

According to the Financial Times, Telegram reported a profit of $540 million in 2024 on $1.4 billion in total revenue. The same report states that in 2024, Telegram generated $250 million from advertising and $292 million from premium subscriptions. With the recent doubling of its premium subscriber base, subscription revenue is this year likely to approach the numbers we have shared above.
