Central Maine Power Update on Plan to Increase Distribution Rates

Central Maine Power Company (CMP) plans to request a five-year rate increase for electricity distribution from the Maine Public Utilities Commission, beginning October 1, 2026.

For an average residential customer using 550 kWh per month, this would raise bills by $17 in October 2026, $5 in October 2027, $4 in October 2028, $4 in October 2029, and $5 in October 2030, totaling an extra $35 per month by 2030. CMP says the rate increases will result in additional revenue of about $427 million by 2030.

CMP says the increase will apply to residential, commercial, and industrial customers to cover costs such as infrastructure and operations.

Customers have been invited to provide comments through the Maine Public Utilities Commission’s website by September 29, 2025, or to attend public hearings on October 14 and 15, 2025, in Hilton Garden Inn, Freeport and 26 Katherine Drive, Hallowell.
