Google Play Update on Introducing Charges For External App Downloads
Google Play update on introducing charges for external app downloads and digital subscriptions. Below is a screenshot of the update.
Under the new fee structure, in-app purchases completed outside Google Play will be charged 10% for auto-renewing subscriptions and 20% for onetime payment digital items. For example, if you sell a $50 non-subscription digital item through an external link, Google would collect $10. If you earn $1,000,000 annually, the first $1 million would be charged at 10%, resulting in $100,000 paid to Google.
For app downloads completed outside the Play Store, Google has introduced a fixed per-install fee. Games will cost $3.65 per install, and non-game apps will cost $2.85 per install. For example, 10,000 external installations of a game will now cost $36,500, while 10,000 installations of a non-game app will cost $28,500.
Google says that it is introducing the charges to comply with the District Court's order.
NOTE: This only applies to app users in the US.
