ICANN has shared an update on its website about an upcoming domain transaction-based fee increase starting July 1, 2025. The update is attached below for your reference.

ICANN Update on Increase in Domain Registration Fees on July 1st

ICANN will increase the transaction-Based Fee, which is part of the variable accreditation fees, from $0.18 to $0.20 per domain transaction (registration, renewal, or transfer) beginning July 1, 2025.

When you register, renew, or transfer a domain, your hosting provider (registrar) collects this fee and passes it to the registry, which then remits it to ICANN. This 11% increase is likely to be passed on to customers.

The Annual Fixed Accreditation Fee of $4,000 will remain unchanged.

Information:

  • Domain Registries manage top-level domains (TLDs), such as .com, .org, and .net.
  • Domain Registrars are companies like GoDaddy, Namecheap, and DreamHost that sell domain names to the public.

In addition to the transaction-based fee increase, ICANN plans to revise other fees paid by registries to account for inflation.

It is important to note that the proposed fee increases must first be approved by a vote of the registrars before ICANN can begin sending invoices on October 2025. Therefore, the outcome is still subject to change.

ICANN states that these fees increase is intended to ensure the organization's financial sustainability now and in the future.
